Dutch traffic signs practice — Learn every sign
Traffic signs are a big part of the Dutch theory exam. You need to know not only their meaning but also how to act on the road. Targeted practice lets you recognise each sign instantly and avoid unnecessary mistakes on exam day.
Categories of Dutch traffic signs
In the Netherlands there are four main categories of traffic sign. Each type has its own shape and colour, so you can recognise them quickly — even from a distance.
Prohibition signs
Round, red border
Tell you what you must not do. Think: no overtaking, speed limit, or one-way streets.
Command signs
Round, blue
Tell you what you must do. For example: required direction or bicycle path.
Warning signs
Triangular, red border
Warn about hazardous situations ahead. You need to pay extra attention and adjust your speed.
Information signs
Rectangular, blue/green
Provide useful information such as the location of a parking lot, pedestrian crossing or built-up area.
Signs that show up most on the exam
These are the signs that appear most often in the CBR theory exam. Make sure you know them all.
| Sign | Type | Exam tip |
|---|---|---|
| Give way | Priority sign | Upside-down triangle — let crossing traffic go first |
| Stop | Priority sign | Always come to a full stop, even if the road looks clear |
| No entry | Prohibition sign | Round, red with a white bar — one-way street |
| Speed limit 30 | Prohibition sign | Applies until the next intersection or cancellation sign |
| Required direction | Command sign | Blue round sign with a white arrow — you must go that way |
| Roundabout | Command sign | Traffic on the roundabout has priority (unless signed otherwise) |
| Dangerous bend | Warning sign | Slow down and stay extra alert |
| Pedestrian crossing | Information sign | Pedestrians on the zebra crossing have priority |
| End of built-up area | Information sign | Speed limit changes from 50 to 80 km/h (unless signed otherwise) |
| Motorway | Information sign | Minimum speed 60 km/h, maximum 100 or 130 km/h |
